We start our Meet with a tradition at CLAC that we showcase the very last 100m of our U15 athletes by lining the track to cheer them on. We also invite our very youngest athletes U6s to run their 100m race then too, their faces light up as they become the stars of the show! It’s a wonderful tradition in honour of the pride we have for every single CLAC athletes young or old. No other events will be called at this time so please help us cheer them on by lining the track 🙂
Individual State Championships: The Entries for the Individual Champs have now closed, and you should have an update about the lists this week.
Weekly Set-Up: Pierre, Prebble, Ranlsey and Volunteers, if you are unable to assist, please contact us urgently, but preferably swap with another family. Set up from 0730, and don’t forget packing up duties too.
Tiny Tots: Tiny Tots this week will commence at 10 am on Saturday.
Uniforms: All uniform items are still for sale, but only by request. If you need anything, please ask at the canteen or tower.
Reminder on Registrations: Unregistered athletes CANNOT attend our Centre Championships.
Social Night: There are spots left for our social night at the Shoreline Hotel – Terrace from 7 pm 27 February 2021. A sign-up sheet will be at the canteen so we can organise catering, please only sign up if you can attend. This is a chance for parents and guardians to talk to your committee members about the season, ideas for change and improvement, but most importantly, have a night out amongst friends and celebrate the season that was.
COVID Safety: Visitors, uncle/aunts/cousins/grandparents and families from different clubs must sign in to attend our meets. We now only offer sign in via the Tas Government COVID safety App (Check-In Tas) which is available from the play store or app store, so visitors can sign in via the app using our specific Centre QR code in a few places at the Centre. Please note, during the Champs, we do not accept visiting athletes.
Reminder to keep socially distanced when watching, household groups can sit close, but other household members should maintain at least the 1.5M gap. Hand sanitiser is available, and we ask that you regularly use it.
Winners of the $10 Coles Vouchers for best dressed last week will be announced this week at the meet; we forgot to do this last week – Sorry!
CLAC Centre Championships Round 3: – This weekend will be the third of the 3 weekends of Centre Championships. Centre Championships are programmed a little differently from our regular meets.
No visiting athletes are permitted for our championships, CLAC athletes only.
There is to be no coaching during the Championships. Encouragement is not coaching but verbally pacing, including shouting out times at points on the track or showing videos between field event attempts is coaching.
Track: On the track, sprint races will be structured around seeded finals. The fastest athletes will be seeded in the first final, where there are more than 8 athletes. These will be TIMED FINALS; we do not run heats. We allow athletes to start the race regardless of the number of false starts during the season; however, for the Centre Championships, athletes will be disqualified from that race if they personally false start twice.
If necessary, we will run timed finals with the placings decided by the fastest times for distance races. Athletes can be disqualified for interference etc.
Field: The standard rules for field events will be followed with the expectation that there is no coaching at or during the event. Chief Officials for the field events will be experienced chief officials and someone without a child in that event. On the track, experienced officials in starting and the finished line will be used and a Start Marshal to place athletes in lanes and finals.
Ribbons: These will be presented out as soon as practicable following the event.
Qualifications/Requirements: Athletes must be in full CLAC uniform, black shorts and CLAC top. Please ensure that name badges and 25 event badges are on the tops (pinned on is acceptable). We will have a few spare 25 event badges. You must have competed in the relevant event at least once at CLAC this season to compete in that event; if you haven’t yet competed at CLAC in the event, the following restrictions apply.
Field events: Those athletes who have not yet competed at least once at CLAC in the discipline are not eligible for a place regardless of the result, but you can compete and receive a participant ribbon.
Laned Events: Those athletes who have not yet competed in a particular event at CLAC may be placed in the second or third final and in an outside lane, regardless of their PB. They can compete, but they are not eligible for a place regardless of the result but will receive a participant ribbon.
Non-Laned Events: Athletes who have not competed in the relevant non-laned event (800m/1500m/Walk) at CLAC at least once will not be able to compete in the Championship event.
Note: Events will not be re-run for athletes that do not turn up to the events on time, so be very careful about being on time!
Have fun, and this may be your last chance to compete before the State Champs.
Presentation Day – 13 March 2021: Our final meet of the year is our Presentation Day, which is on 13 March 2021 at Clarence High (our regular ground). This is where we will be handing out our athlete’s prizes, conducting a few fun events involving parents (parents don’t be scared), and putting on our end of season party. Whilst we know other sports will be competing with us on the day, we would appreciate it if as many people as possible can commit to coming, so it’s a great day for all. We don’t want to end up taking boxes of trophies home to store for the winter.
We are planning this meet running from 0900-1100 only.
