President Update: Thanks to all those who attended our last meet, I think you will all agree it was a great day out, with Connor and Palepa setting new records, and despite our extra precautions that were needed the visit from SANTA was a hit!
Our next meet back is on 2 January; regular times 8:15 warm-up and 8:30 first events called. Tiny Tots will be targeted for a 10:15 start. A refresher on previous activities, a relay, a go on the high jump or long jump as available and a track run.
U13 Sportsmanship Awards: Each year the LTAS Board accepts nominations from U13 athletes; with each Centre putting forward 1 boy and 1 girl as nominees. A specific email calling for nominees will be sent to the relevant athlete families, but U13 athletes who would like to nominate should start to prepare a submission of up to 500 words based on the following criteria:
Criteria to be addressed in the nomination: The following areas are to be viewed in the case of each Centre applicant, and the Centre to complete with information relating to each section.
CONCERN Nominees shall have demonstrated that they place concern for others above themselves and are committed to the spirit of Little Athletics.
RESPECT During the competition the athlete must demonstrate respect of the rules and the officials charged with their enforcement and maintain standards of behaviour in and out of athletics that reflect their worth to be considered for the award.
IMPROVEMENT Nominees shall demonstrate, during practice and competition, a constant desire to improve and achieve higher levels of skills and performance which reflect their commitment to Little Athletics and its ideals.
DETERMINATION Nominees shall strive with consistent determination to achieve their personal goals, doing so without complaining or resorting to alibi’s, even if things seems to go wrong.
ENTHUSIASM Nominees shall look forward to competing and reflect an attitude of enthusiasm in both participation and self-improvement.
Name Badges: We expect the “final” batch of name badges to arrive by 9 January. As always, they should be available in the Age Group Coordinator (AGC) folders.
Registrations: Every athlete should now be registered.
If you need to provide proof of age, please bring a document with DOB on it, such as birth certificate, Medicare immunisation record or passport to the Tower asap. There is a current list on the notice board; please check this list to ensure we do not need to sight your documents; if we do you can bring them to our next meet on 2 January. An individual email will be sent to those families still on our “to checklist”; please do not ignore this process.
State Multi Champs: 16 and 17 January 2021– Penguin, held over two days for U13s and Up (16th &-17th), with U9s and up on day 2 (17th). Please register and pay LATAS direct asap so we can form Multi Teams.
State Relays:Keep an eye out for more information about the State Relays held in Launceston on 6 February 2021. We will investigate a bus for this event, which would be circa $15 a seat return. The Committee will contribute to the hire costs of the bus. It is hoped that only one parent or guardian will be required per team for this event. This may help get more teams to get to the meet. We had hoped to start to formulate teams by now, but we are still awaiting confirmation of the information from the LTAS office.
Expressions of interest will be sought as soon as possible with a view to being finished by mid to late January; this is a great day out, and we often enter multiple teams for each age group. Athletes must nominate at CLAC to be considered for Relay teams, more info to come.
ALAC Nominations: Nominations are now open for the 2021 State Team for the Australian Little Athletics Championships (ALAC). The Championships will be held in Melbourne on the 23rd-24th April 2021, with the team travelling on Wednesday 21 April and return on Sunday 25 April.
COVID Safety: Visitors, uncle/aunts/cousins/grandparents and families from different clubs must sign in to our meets. We have registered for the new Tas Government COVID safety App (Check-In Tas) available from the play store or app store, so visitors can sign in via the app using our specific Centre QR code (or do it on paper if you are not techno-savvy. I can do it, so it must be easy!).
Reminder to keep socially distanced when watching, household groups can sit close, but other household members should maintain at least the 1.5M gap. Hand sanitiser is available, and we ask that you regularly use it.
On behalf of the Committee, I wish you and yours a very Happy New Year, see you on 2 January.
